Pensive Harpy by cuteskittles4u Pensive Harpy by cuteskittles4u
:faint: Okay, I promise, this will be the last purple, winged, harpy drawing I will submit... for a while. Focus here was lighting and a little bit of practice with backgrounds... sorry, kinda gave up when I got to the background part... ^^; I hope you are able to enjoy anyways, I'm rather proud of this one but if you have suggestions, I'm always happy to hear em... and I may still be adding some things to this.

Hmm, I thought this one looked too plain and fakey, and now that I've drawn the other one, this one looks really cold...

One major thing I see with this is the scale of your light source. I am assuming it is a setting sun, but what you have rendered is a light that is about as powerful as a maglight flashlight. The figure is lit well but the light on the ground plane wouldn't taper (sp?) like you have it rendered as it moves across the bottom of your compostion. Think about how far sunlight has to travel to hit this cliff you have painted, It's not going to run out of steam after about 4 or 5 feet right? and if its setting then the shadow cast by the harpy would be almost horizontal...does that make sense? Same with the sky, its not lending to the credibility of your image. take pictures of the sky in the situation you want and have them up on your computer while you paint. For reference, then just change the color around as you observe. glad to see your light has some temperature, and i really like that warm color note you have with the claws.
